The excursion committee
The excursion committee, is responsible for organising excursions to companies. Every company we visit has something to do with mechanical engineering, of course, so we guarantee that every excursion is accompanied by a mechanical engineer. We aim to visit at least thirteen companies, with as much variation between them as possible. You can think of the multinational Fokker, which produces airplanes, or Van Oord, the world's largest dredging company.
The excursioncommittee organises excursions for members because you must participate in at least four excursions per year of study. But the purpose of the excursion is to get you acquainted with the companies or fields in which you want to work in the future. Whether you are enthusiastic about working for a company or field later on or not, the excursions make the choice easier for you. In addition, it is possible that you will like a company so much that you will want to continue working with them and do an internship!
The study Mechanical Engineering has existed for a few years now. This is an English-language route of three years set up for Dutch speaking students of VWO, but also for international students from all over the world who meet the same level. Because the excursioncommittee wants to involve this group as well, we try to organise at least three excursions in English. But these excursions are a great opportunity for every student of both studies. Many companies have adopted English as their working language, and many are already active internationally.
